KAI to Install Signage on Tanah Abang Land Controlled by Hercules
PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) or PT KAI will take steps to secure its assets on the disputed land in the Tanah Abang area, Central Jakarta. This vacant plot near the station and Tanah Abang Market was originally intended to be developed into flats by the Ministry of Housing and Settlement Areas (PKP). Deputy Director of PT KAI, Dody Budiawan, stated that the installation of the signage is to ensure that the company’s assets remain under its control, while also dispelling ownership claims from other parties. “We will install signage, (its function) to explain the data of those assets,” said Dody in a video uploaded to the Instagram account of Minister of PKP Maruarar Sirait, @maruararsirait, on Saturday (18/4/2026). The state-owned railway company holds a Land Management Right Certificate (HPL) issued in 2008, specifically HPL Number 17 and HPL Number 19. “That the asset belongs to PT KAI,” Dody explained. Meanwhile, the Director General of Land Dispute and Conflict Handling at the Ministry of ATR/BPN, Iljas Tedjo Prijono, confirmed that the land is indeed recorded as owned by PT KAI. “That is state land which states the identity of land owned by PT KAI based on HPL Number 17 and Number 19 in Central Jakarta,” Iljas revealed. According to him, HPL is valid proof of ownership under Indonesian land law. Meanwhile, the organisation and heirs controlling the disputed land claim to hold verponding rights. “Regarding that issue, normatively based on the data recorded in the Ministry of ATR/BPN in the land sector, it is in the name of PT KAI, HPL Number 17 and HPL 19,” Iljas clarified.
