PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) Operational Area 8 Surabaya will develop the Malang Station area in Malang City, East Java, by the end of 2026 to support the ease of movement for rail service users.

“Malang Station plays an important role in supporting public mobility. We are preparing a station area development that includes parking facilities, pedestrian access, and space for MSMEs (micro, small and medium enterprises),” said Mahendro Trang Bawono, Public Relations Manager of KAI Operational Area 8 Surabaya, in Malang City on Tuesday.

He said the development of the Malang Station area is inseparable from the increasing activity of rail service users, particularly during national holidays.

Data from PT KAI Operational Area 8 Surabaya shows that during every national holiday period, passenger volume at the station averages 7,600 people per day, comprising 3,900 arrivals and 3,700 departures.

Meanwhile, for passenger numbers on working days, Monday to Thursday, in the July 2026 period, 6,500 people were recorded using rail services at Malang Station.

The total passenger figure consisted of 3,100 arrivals and 3,400 departures.

He explained that the area development is a long-term strategy pursued by KAI Surabaya to meet future public service needs.

Mahendro said all prepared concepts continue to be reviewed, particularly regarding safety, operational, technical, comfort, and public needs aspects.

He stressed that the development of the Malang Station area remains coordinated with various stakeholders in the local area so that the implementation process runs smoothly.

“The development of the Malang Station area is part of our efforts to ensure service growth goes hand in hand with improving the quality of customer experience,” he said.
