BEKASI — PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) plans to build a memorial monument to commemorate the victims of the accident between the KA Argo Bromo Anggrek train and the KRL Jakarta–Cikarang commuter train at Bekasi Timur Station.

KAI President Director Bobby Rasyidin stated that the construction of the monument is a form of respect and a reminder of the tragedy that occurred.

“Then we also want to build a monument here. Please support it,” Bobby said when met at the location on Monday (4/5/2026).

According to him, this reflects the profound grief felt not only by the victims’ families but also by KAI.

“This is part of our condolences and sorrow. Of course, this great loss, we want to be part of the families of the deceased victims,” he said.

“And we will certainly provide better and safer services in the future,” Bobby added.

He emphasised that safety is the top priority that cannot be negotiated or compromised.

“For the injured victims, we are also providing full assistance. Our staff are at the hospital 24 hours a day,” he said.

As a preventive measure to ensure such incidents do not recur, KAI is identifying high-risk level crossings for immediate closure.

“There are more than 200 crossings that we will close soon. And we have categorised 235 locations for closure as quickly as possible,” Bobby stated.

The incident resulted in 106 victims. A total of 16 people died after receiving treatment, while 90 others were injured.

All 240 passengers on the KA Argo Bromo Anggrek were reported to have survived.
