PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) has announced that, for the time being, Bekasi Timur Station in West Java will not handle passenger boarding and alighting due to an operational incident in the area of Bekasi Timur Station, Daerah Operasi 1 Jakarta. KAI is prioritising passenger safety. “We extend our apologies to all customers for the inconvenience caused. At present, our main focus is on handling the situation at the site and ensuring the safety and service for customers remain fulfilled,” said VP Corporate Communication KAI Anne Purba in her statement in Jakarta on Tuesday (28/4/2026). KAI has apologised to all customers for the disruption arising from the incident. According to Anne, customers planning to travel by train may temporarily use services via Bekasi Station until further notice. Operations on the Bekasi line are still being adjusted in line with the ongoing handling process in the field. KAI, she said, continues to coordinate with all relevant parties to accelerate the handling and recovery of services so that operations can return to normal as soon as possible. The latest information will be provided periodically through KAI’s official channels. For information, three passengers remain trapped, and joint SAR team personnel are implementing a rotating scheme to rescue the victims by cutting the iron frame of the KRL carriage at Bekasi Timur Station, Bekasi, on Tuesday at 05.53 WIB. Head of Basarnas Mohammad Syafii, in a video received in Jakarta on Tuesday, stated that Basarnas personnel and the joint SAR team are using heavy extrication equipment to cut parts of the KRL train that are pinning the victims’ bodies. He revealed that personnel must exercise full caution and work effectively because the KRL carriage space is narrow, considering that part of the head of the KA Argo Bromo Anggrek has entered it. As such, he continued, the inside of that KRL carriage can only accommodate a maximum of 25 SAR personnel, including medical staff. This fatal incident occurred on Monday (27/4) at 20.55 WIB, involving KA Argo Bromo Anggrek train number 4 on the Gambir–Surabaya Pasar Turi route, which collided with a KRL train at Bekasi Timur Station (BKST).
