KAI Tanjungkarang warns residents against waiting for Iftar in railway track areas
PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) Regional Division (Divre) IV Tanjungkarang has reiterated its warning to the public not to engage in ngabuburit—waiting for Ramadhan fast-breaking times—or other activities in railway track areas.
“We hope the public remains vigilant and careful when crossing level crossings, and does not conduct activities around railway tracks, including ngabuburit or waiting for Iftar time in the railway area,” said Azhar Zaki Assjari, Manager of Public Relations at KAI Divre IV Tanjungkarang, in Bandar Lampung on Wednesday.
He reported that members of the public are still being found in or conducting activities around railway tracks, particularly during pre-dawn meals (sahur) or approaching Iftar times.
According to him, violations at level crossings and activities on railway tracks pose significant safety risks to railway personnel, customers, and the public alike.
“In addition to posing high risk, such activities also violate legal regulations and can result in criminal penalties and fines,” he said.
“Violations of these provisions can incur criminal penalties of up to three months imprisonment or fines of up to Rp15 million as stipulated in Article 199 of the relevant law,” he added.
As a preventative measure, KAI is actively conducting safety awareness initiatives with the public, including educational activities at schools, community groups, and areas surrounding railway tracks.
“KAI is also intensifying security patrols and monitoring at locations where violations are likely to occur,” said Zaki.
