REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA – Public interest in PT Kereta Api Indonesia’s Suite Class Compartment train service continues to show an upward trend. From January–February 2026, this premium train service carried 8,236 passengers, an increase of 71.96 percent compared to the same period in 2025 which recorded 4,789 passengers. The increase reflects growing interest in rail travel that offers private space as well as a more personal travel experience. Year on year, growth also remained consistent. Throughout 2025, the Suite Class Compartment train served 42,118 passengers, up 47.8 percent from 2024 which recorded 28,496 passengers. Vice President Corporate Communications KAI Anne Purba said the service is designed to provide a calmer and more exclusive travel experience for customers. According to Anne, each travel space is in a private compartment so that travellers can enjoy the journey more comfortably, whether to rest, work, or enjoy long-distance travel more freely. The interior of the Suite Class Compartment train is designed with a modern and ergonomic approach. Each compartment is equipped with seats that can be reclined into beds, a private entertainment system, comfortable lighting, and space that provides privacy during journeys. “The Suite Class Compartment train offers a more personal travel experience so that customers can enjoy their travel time more comfortably,” said Anne. Currently, the Suite Class Compartment train service is operated on several main journeys, namely KA Bima on Gambir–Surabaya Gubeng round trip, KA Argo Semeru on Gambir–Surabaya Gubeng round trip, and KA Argo Bromo Anggrek on Gambir–Surabaya Pasar Turi round trip. This corridor is a main route connecting Jakarta with several major cities on the island of Java that have high mobility. In addition, journeys with these trains also open opportunities for passengers to enjoy various tourist destinations along the journey, such as Semarang, Yogyakarta, and Surabaya, which offer a variety of cultural tourism, cuisine, and heritage areas. Anne adds that the increase in passenger numbers shows the growth of rail-based travel options in Indonesia, especially for services with higher levels of comfort.
