KAI Successfully Serves Over 1.4 Million Passengers During Eid al-Adha and Pancasila Day Long Weekend
Jakarta (ANTARA) - PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) successfully served 1,405,963 passengers during the long holiday period for Eid al-Adha 1447 Hijriah and Pancasila Day, spanning from 26 May to 1 June 2026. This achievement reflects high public confidence in railway services as a preferred mode of transport for various needs, including homecoming, holidays, visiting family, and business travel.
Passenger travel patterns during this period showed interesting characteristics. Unlike typical patterns concentrated on one or two specific days, public mobility during this long weekend was more evenly distributed throughout the holiday period. This was evident from daily passenger volumes consistently remaining above 175,000 and continuing to rise towards the end of the holiday period.
Daily occupancy from 26 May to 1 June 2026 was as follows:
• 26 May 2026: 214,349 passengers
• 27 May 2026: 155,110 passengers
• 28 May 2026: 175,526 passengers
• 29 May 2026: 191,849 passengers
• 30 May 2026: 214,142 passengers
• 31 May 2026: 218,289 passengers
• 1 June 2026: 236,698 passengers
The data shows that the public utilised the flexibility of the long weekend to determine travel times that best suited their individual needs. Outbound flows were not concentrated on a single day, while return flows occurred gradually until the final day of the holiday. The peak passenger volume occurred on 1 June 2026, indicating that many passengers chose to maximise their holiday time before returning to their activities the following day.
Passenger distribution was also evident in the favourite routes that dominated the period. Cities with high tourism, educational, cultural, and economic appeal were the primary destinations. The top 10 favourite routes based on passenger volume were:
Gambir–Yogyakarta: 18,514 passengers
Yogyakarta–Gambir: 15,047 passengers
Gambir–Semarang Tawang: 11,935 passengers
Semarang Tawang–Gambir: 11,746 passengers
Gambir–Bandung: 11,375 passengers
Pasar Senen–Surabaya Pasarturi: 10,342 passengers
Bandung–Gambir: 10,131 passengers
Surabaya Pasarturi–Pasar Senen: 9,682 passengers
Surabaya Gubeng–Yogyakarta: 9,449 passengers
Yogyakarta–Surabaya Gubeng: 9,161 passengers
The dominance of Jakarta–Yogyakarta, Jakarta–Semarang, Jakarta–Bandung, and Surabaya–Yogyakarta routes demonstrates the increasing diversity of public travel. Some passengers travelled to tourist and cultural destinations, while others used the holiday to return to their hometowns, visit family, attend social events, or spend time with loved ones.
The high volume of travel on these routes also highlights the strong connectivity between cities that serve as hubs for education, economy, government, and tourism. The railway network connects these various needs across many regions in Java.
KAI Vice President of Corporate Communication, Anne Purba, expressed appreciation and gratitude to all passengers who trusted railway services during the long holiday. “We would like to thank all passengers who chose the train as part of their journey during this long holiday. The trust given by the public motivates us to continue improving service quality, travel safety, passenger comfort, and ease of access at various points along the journey,” said Anne.
Anne added that every holiday period serves as a valuable learning opportunity for the company to conduct evaluations and service refinements. “We realise that passenger expectations will continue to evolve. Therefore, KAI will continue to implement various improvements, service developments, technology utilisation, and operational quality enhancements to ensure that the train travel experience becomes increasingly comfortable, safe, and relevant to the needs of the community. Thank you for the continued trust in KAI,” she concluded.
