KAI: Several events increase public mobility to Purwokerto
PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) Operational Area 5 Purwokerto has assessed that a number of events in the Purwokerto area, Banyumas Regency, Central Java, have contributed to increased public mobility towards the city.
Public Relations Manager of PT KAI Operational Area 5 Purwokerto, M As’ad Habibuddin, said in Purwokerto on Sunday that this was reflected in the number of passengers arriving at Purwokerto Station on Saturday (22/8), which reached 6,870 people.
According to him, this figure represents an increase of around 32 percent compared with the daily average of passenger arrivals during August 2026 of 5,190 passengers.
In addition, he said, the increase in arrivals shows that rail has become one of the public’s transport options for attending various events in Purwokerto and its surroundings.
“We are pleased to be able to support easier public access to Purwokerto with safe and comfortable journeys,” he said.
According to him, a number of events taking place over the weekend were among the factors driving the increase in public mobility towards Purwokerto.
He cited the 2026 Banyumas Kentongan Festival, held on Saturday (22/8) evening, as not only a space for preserving local arts and culture but also a tourist attraction drawing interest from people across various regions.
Meanwhile, the Purwokerto City Run 2026, held on Sunday (23/8) morning, he said, also served as an attraction for runners from various regions to come to Banyumas.
“Based on data from KAI Operational Area 5 Purwokerto, the majority of passengers arriving at Purwokerto Station on Saturday (22/8) came from a number of major cities on Java, including Jakarta, Yogyakarta, and various other areas,” he explained.
Furthermore, he said KAI Operational Area 5 Purwokerto continues to support ease of mobility for people wishing to attend various events or undertake tourism and other travel activities in the Purwokerto area and its surroundings.
In addition to these events, he said, the national holiday for the Prophet Muhammad’s birthday on Tuesday (25/8) also has the potential to increase public mobility.
According to him, this is because some people are taking leave on Monday (24/8), potentially creating a long holiday period that encourages increased rail travel.
As part of efforts to support customer comfort, the company provides various facilities and services, including free children’s play areas at a number of major stations, maintaining the cleanliness and comfort of station facilities, and delivering optimal service from staff at stations and during journeys.
