Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ascension of Jesus Christ long weekend has driven increased public movement to various cities since Wednesday, 13 May 2026. Activity at major stations has been busier than usual, as passenger travel increases for holidays, family gatherings, attending family events, and meeting work and education needs between cities.

Amid this mobility, trains serve as a space that brings together many stories of people’s journeys. There are families taking advantage of the long holiday to reunite, students returning to see their parents, and business people who continue to move to maintain their economic activities in various regions.

PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) recorded that during the first three days of the long weekend, as many as 554,407 passengers had used KAI’s long-distance and local train services in Java and Sumatra.

Meanwhile, as of Saturday, 16 May 2026 at 10:00 WIB, ticket sales for the 13-17 May 2026 departure period had reached 861,926 tickets. This number continues to increase as public interest in traveling during the long holiday via train transport remains high.

According to Anne, the high mobility of trains during long weekends also reflects the significant role of public transportation in driving the social and economic life of communities in various regions.

“Every train journey has a broad impact. Community activities also increase, starting from MSMEs around the station, onward transportation, accommodation, culinary centers, to local trade in destination cities. Mobility that is maintained during the long holiday period also provides space for community economic growth,” added Anne.
