KAI Serves 5.08 Million Passengers During Eid 2026, Up 8.07%
PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) or KAI has expressed appreciation to all customers who trusted rail services for their Eid homecoming and return journeys in 2026. During the period from 11 March to 1 April 2026, KAI served 5,087,458 long-distance and local train passengers under its management, an increase of 8.07% compared to the 4,707,628 passengers during Eid 2025.
KAI Vice President of Corporate Communication Anne Purba provided detailed figures, noting that long-distance train services recorded 4,246,274 passengers with an occupancy rate of 118.9% from a capacity of 3,571,760 seats. Meanwhile, local train services accommodated 841,184 passengers with 90.7% occupancy from a capacity of 926,936 seats.
“Compared to the Eid 2025 period, the number of long-distance train passengers increased by around 8.45% from 3,915,546 passengers,” Anne stated in an official release on Friday (3/4).
Passenger movement was evenly distributed across various operational regions, with the highest growth in Daop 5 Purwokerto, serving 460,933 passengers or an increase of about 11.7% from 412,819 passengers in Eid 2025.
Next, Daop 4 Semarang recorded 589,313 passengers or growth of about 10.0% from 535,709 passengers. Meanwhile, Daop 6 Yogyakarta served 581,418 passengers or an increase of about 8.5% compared to 535,790 passengers in the previous period.
Operational performance during the Eid transport period 2026 was also reflected in high on-time achievements. KAI recorded 99.80% on-time departures and 98.86% on-time arrivals, indicating consistent service maintenance throughout the Eid transport period.
To meet additional capacity needs, KAI introduced the Kereta Ekonomi Kerakyatan series on the additional KA route between Lempuyangan and Pasar Senen (return). This service recorded 10,394 passengers on the Lempuyangan–Pasar Senen route with 127% occupancy, and 10,233 passengers on the return route with 125% occupancy.
KAI also supported the Free Motorcycle Homecoming programme organised by the Directorate General of Railways (DJKA) of the Ministry of Transportation by serving 48,740 homecomers, as part of efforts to enhance public travel safety.
