Semarang (ANTARA) - PT KAI Operational Area 4 Semarang served approximately 220,000 passengers departing from and arriving at various stations spread across the northern Central Java region during the four-day holiday period commemorating the Ascension of Jesus Christ, from 14 to 17 May.

The Public Relations Manager of PT KAI Daop 4 Semarang, Luqman Arif, in Semarang on Sunday, said that this number increased by 26.23% compared to the same period last year, which reached 174,000 passengers.

He added that the highest passenger traffic occurred on 17 May, with an estimated more than 46,000 passengers departing from and arriving in the Semarang Daop area.

He mentioned that this number would still increase as trains continue to depart until the end of Sunday.

A number of train series that are popular among passengers during the Ascension of Jesus Christ holiday include the Ambarawa Express, Airlangga, Argo Merbabu, Menoreh, Blora Jaya, and Argo Sindoro.

“The most popular destinations include Jakarta, Surabaya, Solo, Purwokerto, Tegal, and Pekalongan,” he said.

He explained that the high volume of passengers during this long holiday period shows KAI’s role as a reliable backbone of national public transportation in supporting community mobility.

Lukman ensured that PT KAI continues to maintain operational performance through improved services, punctuality, and strengthened safety aspects.

He added that PT KAI remains committed to prioritizing safety with the support of all operational staff to ensure that customer journeys are safe, secure, comfortable, and on time.
