KAI Reports Surge in Premium Train Users Throughout 2026

PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) has recorded significant growth in passengers using the Compartment Suite service in early 2026. The premium train service, offering private compartments, is increasingly popular among travellers seeking more comfortable and flexible journeys.

Vice President of Corporate Communications at KAI, Anne Purba, stated that the Compartment Suite service served 16,315 passengers between January and April 2026, a 79.35% increase from the same period in 2025 when 9,097 passengers were served.

Anne noted that the trend reflects a shift in public preference for transportation modes, particularly for long-distance and holiday travel.

‘Travel trends are shifting. Many passengers now seek more comfortable journeys with private spaces and the ability to relax during travel,’ Anne said in a statement.

KAI also noted that the growth trend in premium services has continued in recent years. In 2025, the Compartment Suite service recorded 42,118 passengers, a 47.8% increase from 28,496 in 2024.

Anne stated that train travel is no longer seen merely as a transport option but as part of the journey experience itself. Passengers are choosing trains for their quieter environment, allowing them to rest or work during travel.

The Compartment Suite service features private cabins designed for enhanced comfort and privacy. Facilities include ergonomic seating, personal entertainment options, and in-transit meals and beverages.

The service is currently available on selected KAI premium trains, including the Bima Compartment Suite, Argo Bromo Anggrek Compartment Suite, and Argo Semeru Compartment Suite, serving popular routes across Java.
