KAI reports 14.78 percent rise in Commuter Line Basoetta users
PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) recorded 1,013,574 customers on its Soekarno-Hatta Airport Commuter Line (Basoetta) in the period January to May 2026, a 14.78 per cent increase compared to 883,065 customers in the same period the previous year. KAI Vice President Corporate Communication Anne Purba said the increase reflects growing public trust in the Commuter Line Basoetta as a transport option that provides travel certainty amid the heavy mobility in the Greater Jakarta area. She noted that public mobility continues to rise and the need for reliable transport is increasing. “Commuter Line Basoetta is here as a travel option that helps customers manage their time better, whether for work, business, or onward journeys by air,” Anne said. The service makes it easier for customers to continue their journeys to various business districts, government centres, commercial areas, and other urban transport networks. “The role of this service is increasingly important considering that Soekarno-Hatta International Airport is Indonesia’s main air gateway,” Anne added. She cited data from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation at the Ministry of Transportation showing Soekarno-Hatta International Airport served 34.76 million passengers and 229,000 aircraft movements throughout 2025. Soekarno-Hatta Airport also serves as a domestic and international aviation hub connecting Indonesia with various cities at home and abroad. The high level of flight activity makes the need for efficient onward transport increasingly relevant. With its route separated from road traffic congestion, the Commuter Line Basoetta provides a more predictable mobility alternative. Customers can better estimate departure and arrival times, making journeys to the city centre or the airport more comfortable. Strengthening service quality, enhancing comfort at stations and during journeys, developing intermodal integration, and utilising digital technology are part of the company’s ongoing efforts. Anne added that reliable public transport makes an important contribution to supporting public productivity and the smooth running of urban economic activity. “Every minute has value for active members of society. Therefore, KAI continues to strive to provide services that help customers travel with greater certainty, comfort, and efficiency,” Anne said. KAI hopes the Commuter Line Basoetta can continue to be the public’s choice for connecting the airport with the centre of Jakarta.
