KAI Regional Division I North Sumatra Prepares 1,380 Free Seats for Ramadan Exodus
PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) Regional Division I for North Sumatra has expressed full support for the Free Exodus Programme initiated by the North Sumatra Provincial Government during the 1447 Hijriah Ramadan transport period. As a tangible contribution to this initiative, KAI has allocated 1,380 seats to serve communities on the Medan–Rantauprapat and Medan–Tanjungbalai routes on both outbound and return journeys.
Acting Manager of Public Relations for KAI Regional Division I North Sumatra, Anwar Yuli Prastyo, explained that this collaboration aims to facilitate residents wishing to celebrate Eid in their hometowns without transportation cost barriers.
“This support represents a synergy between KAI Regional Division I and the North Sumatra Provincial Government in providing safe, complimentary transport services to the community,” said Anwar on Monday 2 February.
Of the total capacity available, the quota is divided equally: 690 seats for outbound travel and the same number for return journeys. This scheme has been designed to maintain orderly passenger distribution and accommodate residents’ mobility needs during the extended holiday period.
For the Rantauprapat route, 440 passenger spaces are available, to be transported across two departure schedules on 16 and 19 March 2026. The journey will use the KA Sribilah Utama Fakultatif train, scheduled to depart Medan Station at 10:10 Western Indonesia Time (WIB).
The return journey is scheduled for 27 and 28 March 2026 with similar capacity. Passengers will be transported using the same train configuration from Rantauprapat Station at 17:05 WIB.
“Communities from Labuhanbatu, North Labuhanbatu and surrounding areas who are currently working in Medan can take advantage of this facility to return to their homeland,” he added.
For the Tanjungbalai destination, a total of 500 seats are allocated, divided between 250 outbound passengers and 250 return passengers. This service will be operated using the KA Putri Deli train, departing from Medan on 16 March 2026 at 07:15 WIB.
For the return journey to Medan, residents can use the train from Tanjungbalai Station on 27 March 2026. The service is scheduled to depart for the provincial capital at 08:15 WIB.
Interested residents can register directly or in person through a registration post at the North Sumatra Department of Transportation office. The registration location is at Jl. Imam Bonjol No. 61, Suka Damai, Medan Polonia District, Medan City.
KAI Regional Division I North Sumatra emphasises the importance of ensuring personal data matches the printed ticket for smooth verification at the station.
“We urge passengers to ensure the registered name matches their original identity, as customers cannot be transported if data is not synchronised,” he said.
Additionally, residents are reminded to complete registration independently and avoid brokerage practices that cause losses. This step is crucial to prevent unnecessary additional costs and minimise the risk of failed travel due to illegal tickets.
“The collaboration between KAI Regional Division I and the North Sumatra Provincial Government consistently prioritises excellent service to the wider community through railway transport. The railway is present as a solution to avoid road congestion during peak Ramadan exodus periods. KAI ensures travellers enjoy comfortable, safe and pleasant journey experiences,” said Anwar.
