KAI Records Nearly One Million Rail Passengers During Iduladha Long Weekend
The Iduladha long weekend and approaching Pancasila’s birthday have boosted mobility across regions. PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) recorded nearly one million rail passengers during the holiday period.
“As of 10:00 WIB on Wednesday, 27 May 2026, ticket sales for the travel period from 26 May to 1 June 2026 reached 911,176, with potential for further increases,” said KAI’s Vice President of Corporate Communications, Anne Purba, in a statement on Wednesday (27/5/2026).
Anne noted high public enthusiasm from the first day of the long weekend. On Tuesday (26/5/2026), KAI served 214,342 passengers, the highest daily figure during the holiday period.
“This long weekend highlights trains becoming the preferred choice for intercity travel. Beyond being practical and comfortable, rail journeys offer a more relaxed experience, allowing passengers to enjoy their holidays more pleasantly,” she added.
She explained that passenger travel patterns were evenly distributed across popular cities in Java and Sumatra. Yogyakarta, Bandung, Semarang, Solo, and Surabaya remain top destinations due to their tourist attractions, culinary offerings, cultural sites, and integrated urban mobility access.
Daily passenger numbers during the Iduladha long weekend:
26 May 2026: 214,342
27 May 2026: 132,523

Passenger mobility was also evident in the most popular routes. The Gambir-Yogyakarta route saw the highest demand with 14,189 passengers, followed by Yogyakarta-Gambir with 13,117. Travel to Semarang, Bandung, Sukabumi, and southern Java cities also showed strong sales trends.
Based on preliminary cumulative sales data from 26 May to 1 June 2026, the top 10 destination stations were:

According to Anne, the travel trends during this long weekend also reflect changing public preferences for holiday journeys. Passengers are increasingly prioritising travel comfort, punctuality, and the experience of enjoying intercity scenery from train windows.
“KAI continues to ensure all journeys during the long weekend are safe, comfortable, and smooth. We urge the public to plan travel early, arrive at stations promptly, and double-check departure schedules to ensure a stress-free and enjoyable trip,” she concluded.
