KAI records almost 50,000 passengers departing Jakarta on Eid holiday eve
Jakarta — PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) Regional Operations Division (Daop) 1 Jakarta reported that almost 50,000 passengers departed the capital on Saturday, seven days before Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijrah, expected to fall on 21 April.
KAI Daop 1 Jakarta’s Public Relations Manager Franoto Wibowo stated that the volume of passenger departures from stations within Daop 1 Jakarta on Saturday reached 49,895 people according to data as of 11:42 WIB.
Meanwhile, the number of passengers arriving in Jakarta on the same day was recorded at 30,841 people. However, both figures may still change as ticket sales remain open.
Specifically at Gambir Station, 17,176 passengers departed and 7,711 arrived.
To anticipate the surge in passengers during the Eid transport period, KAI Daop 1 is operating 68 regular and 12 additional trains from Gambir Station. Several long-distance trains have become passenger favourites for departures from Gambir Station during the established Eid transport period from 11 March to 1 April 2026, including Pandalungan, Argo Semeru, Gunungjati, Cakrabuana, Pangandaran, and Batavia.
Overall, from the start of the Eid transport period until Saturday, 11-14 March 2026, 166,821 passengers departed and 88,325 arrived across all stations in the Daop 1 Jakarta operational area.
KAI has provided a total of 1,076,196 seats during the Eid transport period, with 698,021 long-distance rail tickets already booked, resulting in an average train occupancy rate of 65 per cent. This leaves 377,902 passenger seats remaining across all classes for long-distance departures from Jakarta on Saturday.
The period from 11-20 March marked the highest ticket sales period, with 451,219 tickets sold over those 10 days. The highest-selling dates included 15 March (51,044 tickets), 18 March (49,663 tickets), 19 March (49,023 tickets), 16 March (48,669 tickets), and 17 March (47,275 tickets).
“During the 15-20 March 2026 period, remaining seats were at their lowest, averaging below 1,000 seats. This means those dates are approaching full capacity,” Franoto Wibowo said.
