KAI Records 3.2 Million Passengers Using Airport Rail Services in Early 2026
REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA – PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) recorded that its airport rail services served 3,246,711 passengers from January to April 2026. This figure shows an increase in the use of rail transport as a mode of access to airport areas in various regions.
Vice President of Corporate Communication at KAI, Anne Purba, said that this achievement came from the Commuter Line Airport Soekarno-Hatta service, the YIA Airport Train, the Srilelawangsa train in Medan, the Minangkabau Express train in Padang, and integrated rail transport services such as the South Sumatra LRT and the BIAS train.
“The growth in the use of these services shows that rail-based connectivity is increasingly needed to support the mobility of modern society,” said Anne in a statement in Jakarta, Saturday (16/5/2026).
Anne said that airport rail services not only make it easier to travel to the airport but also strengthen connections between urban areas, economic centers, and tourist destinations. For the Commuter Line Airport Soekarno-Hatta service, the number of customers from January to April 2026 reached 837,778 customers, an increase of 18.69 percent compared to the same period last year, which was 705,859 customers.
“This growth shows that there is an increasing need for people in the Greater Jakarta area for transportation to Soekarno-Hatta Airport, which has a guaranteed travel time in the midst of high urban traffic congestion,” said Anne.
In Yogyakarta, the YIA Airport Train service recorded a total of 920,898 customers from January to April 2026, consisting of 619,498 customers for the Regular YIA Airport Train and 301,400 customers for the YIA Xpress train. This number increased compared to the same period in 2025, which was 888,653 customers.
“This growth shows that integrated transportation access is increasingly becoming an important part of supporting the tourism sector and the mobility of people in Yogyakarta and its surroundings,” she said.
Connectivity to the airport has also increased in North Sumatra through the Srilelawangsa train service on the Medan-Kualanamu and Medan-Binjai routes. From January to April 2026, the number of customers reached 1,414,031 customers, an increase compared to the same period last year, which was 1,379,178 customers. This route is the main link between the urban area of Medan, the surrounding areas, and Kualanamu Airport.
In West Sumatra, the Minangkabau Express train served 74,004 customers on the Pulau Aie-Padang-Tabing-Duku-Minangkabau International Airport route, with a travel time of around 45 to 50 minutes.
“The presence of this service helps people and tourists get more efficient, affordable, and directly connected transportation access to the airport and the city center of Padang,” said Anne.
The strengthening of rail-based connectivity is also visible in Solo through the Adi Soemarmo Airport Train or BIAS, which has now been extended to Madiun. This service expands access for people from Solo Raya, Sragen, Ngawi, Magetan, to Madiun to the airport without relying solely on road travel.
“In addition to making it easier for people to travel, this connectivity also opens up opportunities for economic and tourism growth between regions that are increasingly connected,” said Anne.
