KAI Records 146,399 Passenger Movements at Blitar Station, Predicted to Rise During Eid al-Adha Holiday
PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) (KAI) recorded 146,399 passenger movements at Blitar Station from January to April 2026. This comprised 70,638 boardings and 75,761 alightings. In April 2026 alone, passenger movements at Blitar Station reached 17,497 boardings and 17,698 alightings. Anne Purba, KAI’s Vice President of Corporate Communications, stated that current travel patterns show growing interest in medium-distance trips and long weekends using public transport, particularly trains which offer reliable schedules and extensive intercity access. Passenger movements are expected to rise again during the Eid al-Adha holiday period in May 2026, as this time is commonly used by the public to return to hometowns or take short family trips. ‘Blitar has a strong destination character, combining historical, cultural, natural, and culinary tourism in one area that is relatively accessible by train,’ Anne said. Visitors to Blitar typically visit historical sites such as Bung Karno’s Mausoleum, Gebang Palace, and the PETA Monument. Additionally, natural and family-friendly attractions like Serang Beach, Rambut Monte, Chocolate Village, and Blitar Park also draw visitors during weekends and holiday seasons. On the southern Java line, Blitar Station serves the Malabar return service between Bandung and Malang, as well as the Kahuripan return service between Blitar and Kiaracondong. Meanwhile, on central and northern Java lines, the station handles services including Gajayana, Brawijaya, Majapahit, Matarmaja, Brantas, Singasari, Kertanegara, and Malioboro Express trains. This connectivity makes access to Blitar increasingly flexible from major cities such as Jakarta, Bandung, Yogyakarta, Solo, Purwokerto, and Malang. Anne noted that this connectivity provides the public with more practical travel options with predictable journey times, boosting the local tourism and economy. She also highlighted that easier transport access has shifted public travel patterns towards more spontaneous and flexible trips. ‘Trains have become part of modern mobility as journeys can be planned more efficiently, comfortably, and with access to multiple destinations. During long holidays like Eid al-Adha, trends such as short escapes and family trips typically increase,’ she said. KAI urged the public to plan journeys in advance and book tickets via the Access by KAI app or other official channels to secure preferred travel schedules.
