KAI Records 11% Passenger Increase During Eid Holidays
Padang (ANTARA) - PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) Divisi Regional II West Sumatra (Sumbar) recorded an increase in the number of passengers in the province of up to 11% during the Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijriah holiday period. “From 11 March to 1 April 2026, a total of 153,206 customers have utilised local train services in the Divre II Sumbar region,” said the Head of Public Relations for KAI Divre II Sumbar, Reza Shahab, in Padang on Thursday. This figure represents an 11% increase compared to the same period in 2025, when the number of Eid transport passengers stood at 137,936 people. This rise reflects the high enthusiasm of the public for using rail transport. The highest passenger movements, both arrivals and departures, were still dominated by Padang Station. Details show 40,616 arrivals and 40,299 departures. Nationally, Padang Station was also recorded as the second-favourite destination station for local train services with 40,616 passengers. Meanwhile, for departures, Padang Station also ranked second with a total of 40,299 passengers. “The highest surge in passenger volume occurred on 24 and 25 March 2026, with the number of departing passengers ranging from 10,000 to 10,300 people per day,” he stated. Most customers used train services for holiday and tourism purposes, especially heading to beach areas in Pariaman City via the KA Pariaman Ekspres. Total ticket sales for the KA Pariaman Ekspres on the Paulima–Naras route during the 2026 Eid Transport period reached 107,783 tickets. In addition to supporting the tourism sector, the KA Pariaman Ekspres also serves as a transport facility for people working or trading in the areas it passes through. Finally, to improve ease of access to services, KAI provides ticket bookings via the Access by KAI application. Tickets can be purchased starting from H-7 before departure, with a maximum of 10 tickets per booking code.
