KAI Ready to Follow Instructions After Prabowo's Disguised Visit to Railway Trackside Area
PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) has stated its readiness to follow up on President Prabowo Subianto’s instructions to conduct an inventory of areas and residents living around railway tracks as a measure to secure railway zones. KAI supports the president’s directive by coordinating with several ministries.
KAI President Director Bobby Rasyidin said this step follows the president’s inspection of the trackside area near Pasar Senen Station in Central Jakarta on Thursday (26/3). Bobby noted that the inventory of residents’ settlements is part of area security.
“KAI supports the President’s instructions through the inventory of residents’ settlements around railway tracks and area security. We are coordinating with the Ministry of Public Works for short-term solutions, as well as with other ministries and parties for long-term steps,” Bobby stated in a written release cited by Antara on Friday (27/3/2026).
Bobby explained that for the Pasar Senen area, KAI will conduct checks and further studies as an initial stage, which will then be expanded to other points along the railway lines. The reorganisation of trackside areas aims to provide decent housing while creating a safer and more orderly environment.
“Reorganising settlements around railway tracks is an important part of creating a more decent environment for the community while strengthening railway travel safety,” Bobby said.
KAI manages more than 327 million square metres of railway land with potential to support housing development. In the Jabodetabek region, the development potential reaches around 131,000 housing units located near transport nodes.
“KAI is following up on the President’s instructions through three main steps: inventory of residents’ settlements around railway tracks, securing railway areas, and collaboration with the Ministry of Public Works for short-term solutions and with other parties for long-term steps to support decent housing and improve community living standards,” Bobby stated.
Previously, President Prabowo met with residents or conducted a blusukan in the trackside area of Senen, Central Jakarta. After absorbing the community’s aspirations, Prabowo ordered several ministers and KAI executives to build decent housing for residents living along the Senen railway trackside.
“Last night, after the blusukan greeting residents along the railway tracks in the Senen area, Central Jakarta,” wrote Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya on the Setkab Instagram account on Friday (27/3/2026).
