KAI Reactivates Plabuan and Comal Stations, Easing Access in North Coast Route

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) is reactivating passenger boarding and alighting services at Plabuan Station in Batang Regency, as well as Comal Station in the administrative area of Pemalang Regency, starting 27 April 2026. This step aims to expand the reach of rail transport services along Java’s north coast route while facilitating easier mobility access for the public. In the initial operational phase, both stations will be served by several trains, namely the Kaligung Train, Kamandaka Train, and Joglosemarkerto Train. “The operation of Plabuan and Comal Stations expands the reach of rail services to be closer to the community,” said Anne in an official statement on Wednesday (21/4/2026). “With more departure points, journeys become more practical and support the daily activities of the public,” she added. This is evident from the trend at Batang Station, the nearest station to Plabuan. In the period from January to March 2026, the number of boarding passengers reached 14,005, an increase of 46.27 per cent compared to the same period in 2025, which was 9,575 passengers. This increase reflects the increasingly active mobility of the public, both for work, education, and other economic activities. With the reactivation of Plabuan Station, travel access becomes closer, and passenger distribution in the Batang area can be more even. In Pemalang Regency, service strengthening is also supported by the performance of Pemalang Station as the main station in the area. For alighting passengers, there were 92,491 passengers, a growth of 23.59 per cent from the previous 74,844 passengers. Additionally, Pekalongan Station in the surrounding area has also recorded an increase.
