KAI Purwokerto increases train capacity for late May holiday

PURWOKERTO (ANTARA) - PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) Operational Region 5 Purwokerto has increased train capacity to accommodate rising travel demand during the late May 2026 holiday period.
KAI Purwokerto’s Public Relations Manager M As’ad Habibuddin, based in Purwokerto, Banyumas Regency, Central Java, said on Tuesday that the additional train units will operate from 26 May to 1 June 2026, coinciding with Eid al-Adha 1447 Hijriah, the Eid al-Adha public holiday, Waisak 2570 BE, and Pancasila Day.
“The holiday period will see an average of 10,191 seats available daily for train services in the Operational Region 5 Purwokerto area,” he said.
He added that KAI Purwokerto has prepared a total of 71,340 seats for the period, including an extra 1,850 seats to manage passenger surges.
“We anticipate increased passenger volumes during the holiday. Therefore, Operational Region 5 Purwokerto has boosted seat capacity to meet public travel needs,” he stated.
The additional carriages have been deployed on several routes departing from stations in the Purwokerto area. For instance, the Cakrabuana service between Purwokerto and Gambir has been expanded from four executive and four economy carriages to five executive and four economy carriages between 28 May and 1 June.
Similarly, the Joglosemarkerto service between Cilacap and Yogyakarta has increased from four executive and three economy to five executive and three economy carriages from 26 May to 1 June.
The Wijayakusuma service from Cilacap to Ketapang also saw an increase from four executive and three economy to five executive and three economy carriages during the same period.
Meanwhile, the Purwojaya service between Cilacap and Gambir has been augmented from eight executive carriages to nine executive carriages on selected trips between 26 May and 1 June.
He urged passengers to plan their journeys in advance and book tickets via the KAI Access app, the official KAI website, or authorised sales partners.
In addition to increasing capacity, KAI Purwokerto has ensured the readiness of infrastructure, train reliability, and improved customer service at stations.
Staff have been deployed to ensure smooth departures and arrivals during the holiday period.
To enhance passenger comfort, the operator has introduced Face Recognition Boarding Gates at Purwokerto and Kutoarjo stations, enabling faster boarding without the need for physical tickets or ID cards.
