KAI Permanently Closes Illegal Railway Crossing in Bogor to Prevent Accidents
KAI Daop 1 Jakarta has permanently closed an illegal railway crossing frequently used by residents in Sukaresmi, Tanah Sareal, Bogor City. The closure is intended to prevent accidents involving road users and trains.
KAI Daop 1 Jakarta Public Relations Manager Franoto Wibowo stated on Thursday (9/7/2026) that the crossing, located at KM 49+8/9 on the track segment between Cilebut Station and Bogor Station, was sealed off this morning. He emphasised that the action was not intended to restrict community mobility but solely to protect the safety of all road users and train passengers.
The closure was carried out by installing eight barrier points made from used railway sleepers, painted red and white to serve as a clear prohibition sign. Franoto noted that illegal crossings pose an extremely high risk as they lack the safety equipment required by regulations. He expressed hope that the public would not reopen the sealed access or create new illegal crossings, urging them instead to use official, guarded level crossings and to always prioritise safety.
To date, KAI Daop 1 Jakarta has permanently closed 28 out of the 31 targeted illegal crossings in the Bogor area, achieving 90 percent of its goal.
