KAI Palembang Audits Security System to Protect Passenger Safety
For KAI, security is not just about protecting company assets and facilities, but also about ensuring every passenger feels safe and comfortable from the moment they enter a station, through the service process, and throughout their train journey.
Palembang (ANTARA) - PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero), through its Regional Division III in Palembang, conducted an audit of the Security Management System (SMP) at Kertapati Station to ensure security procedures are being implemented effectively and to protect passengers’ safety and comfort.
Aida Suryanti, public relations manager for KAI Regional Division III Palembang, said in Palembang on Friday that the audit was an effort to evaluate the effectiveness of the security system and identify potential risks and disruptions in railway operations.
Kertapati Station was selected as one of the pilot sites for inspections in the audit across KAI Regional Division III Palembang’s area of operations. Ongoing evaluations are being carried out to maintain consistent security standards at other operational facilities.
“For KAI, security is not just about protecting company assets and facilities, but also about ensuring every passenger feels safe and comfortable from the moment they enter a station, through the service process, and throughout their train journey,” she said.
She explained that the audit covered inspections of several facilities and service areas at Kertapati Station, including passenger waiting rooms, ticket and boarding-pass checks, visitor reception, ticket counters, customer service, and monitoring through CCTV cameras.
The inspection also covered the car park, station yard, CCTV control room and protection of company assets, to ensure all facilities were functioning properly and monitoring procedures were being implemented in accordance with requirements.
“The audit findings will inform reviews to improve the security system, strengthen risk mitigation and enhance staff preparedness for potential disruptions that could affect passenger safety and the smooth running of train operations,” she said.
The audit focused not only on compliance with administrative standards, but also on ensuring that security procedures are actually followed on the ground.
“We want to ensure that every security procedure genuinely benefits passengers and the public. A safe, orderly and well-monitored station environment will improve passenger comfort while helping to keep operations running smoothly,” she said.
The audit is also part of KAI’s efforts to ensure that security at the company’s national vital objects and other designated sites is managed in accordance with applicable rules, including Indonesian National Police Regulation No. 7 of 2019 on the provision of security assistance at national vital objects and other designated sites, within the scope of its application.
KAI Regional Division III Palembang is committed to strengthening its security system through regular evaluations, improved compliance with procedures, better use of surveillance facilities and enhanced staff preparedness, in order to provide the public with safe and reliable rail services.
