KAI Palembang adds executive train for Prophet Muhammad's Birthday holiday
PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) Regional Division III Palembang has added one executive class train to accommodate the high public interest in travelling during the long weekend coinciding with the commemoration of the Prophet Muhammad’s Birthday. Public Relations Manager of KAI Divre III Palembang Aida Suryanti said in Palembang on Saturday that the additional train set is the company’s response to the high travel demand during the period of 21-26 August 2026.
KAI Divre III Palembang provides transport capacity through three trains operating in the Divre III Palembang region, namely the Bukit Serelo train, the Rajabasa train, and the Sindang Marga train. The additional executive class capacity is intended to provide more travel options while accommodating the mobility needs of the public during the holiday period.
Overall, KAI Divre III Palembang has prepared 19,200 seats during the period. As of Saturday, ticket sales have reached 22,854 tickets, or approximately 119 percent of the seat capacity provided. The high demand is evident on the Bukit Serelo train serving the Kertapati-Lubuk Linggau route and the Rajabasa train serving the Kertapati-Tanjungkarang route. Ticket sales for the Original Destination of both trains have exceeded 100 percent.
Meanwhile, ticket sales for the Sindang Marga train serving the Kertapati-Lubuk Linggau route reached 73 percent of the seats provided. For the reverse direction, the Lubuk Linggau-Kertapati route, tickets sold reached 57 percent.
She urged members of the public who still need travel tickets to make bookings early because seat availability and fare subclasses may change according to demand levels. Specifically for the Sindang Marga train, KAI applies dynamic pricing adjusted to demand levels, travel momentum, the selected route, and booking time.
Business class fares for the Sindang Marga train range from Rp100,000 to Rp260,000, while executive class fares range from Rp140,000 to Rp350,000, depending on the route and available subclasses. “During periods of high travel demand, fares in certain subclasses may be at a higher position and closer to the upper limit. However, fares remain within the applicable lower and upper fare limit corridor,” she said.
Customers can monitor ticket availability through the Access by KAI application, KAI’s official website, and KAI’s official partners. In addition to increasing capacity, KAI Divre III Palembang ensures that safety and security aspects remain a priority by conducting routine inspections of facilities and infrastructure as well as mitigating potential travel disruptions.
KAI also urges customers to safeguard their tickets, identity documents, and belongings while at stations and on trains, and to ensure no items are left behind when alighting at the destination station. “We are committed to providing safe, comfortable, enjoyable, and memorable journeys for all customers. We continue to strengthen the readiness of facilities, infrastructure, personnel, and risk mitigation during this holiday period,” said Aida.
