KAI Operational Division 7 Reports Surge in Long-Distance Train Passengers During 2026 Idul Adha Holiday
PT KAI Operational Division 7 Madiun in East Java reported a significant surge in long-distance train passengers during the 2026 Idul Adha holiday. PT KAI (Persero) Operational Division 7 Madiun’s Public Relations Manager Tohari said on Friday that long-distance train passengers dominated traffic compared to regular days across stations in the Madiun division, including Kediri.
‘During the Idul Adha 1447 Hijriyah/2026 holiday period from Tuesday to Thursday (26-28 May), KAI recorded a significant surge in long-distance passenger movement. Arrival traffic at various stations was observed to dominate compared to regular days,’ he stated in a statement released in Kediri on Friday.
He explained that on Friday, 29 May 2026, a total of 48,536 passengers used long-distance trains. This figure comprised 28,115 arrivals and 20,421 departures.
Passenger arrivals peaked on Tuesday, 26 May 2026, with 13,396 passengers, while departures peaked on Thursday, 28 May, at 8,253.
‘Departure trends on Friday (29 May) remained high with 5,038 passengers. This mobility is projected to remain dynamic as direct ticket sales (go show) are still available until midnight,’ he added.
He added that the positive trend aligns with high public interest in the long weekend holiday. Arrival volumes are expected to remain dominant before shifting to return travel flows early next week.
The company predicts passenger occupancy for the return travel rush will resume on Monday, 1 June 2026. According to monitoring data, 4,860 passengers have booked tickets for that date. The figure remains dynamic and is expected to rise as bookings continue until the day of departure.
The company urged passengers to plan their journey to the station in advance. ‘Passengers are advised to avoid arriving too close to departure time to prevent missing their train,’ he said.
He also encouraged the public to use rail services as a safe, comfortable, environmentally friendly, and punctual mass transportation option. Tickets can now be booked independently and easily via the Access by KAI app, KAI’s official website, or other authorised ticketing partners.
