KAI operates additional train from Malang Station amid Anak Krakatau eruption
PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) Operational Area 8 Surabaya is operating one additional train on the Malang–Gambir route to accommodate passenger travel amid the eruption of Mount Anak Krakatau in the Sunda Strait, which has also affected flight operations.
KAI Operational Area 8 Surabaya Public Relations Manager Mahendro Trang Bawono said in an official statement received in Malang, East Java, on Sunday that the additional train would depart from Malang Station at 20:15 WIB and was estimated to arrive at Gambir Station on Monday (7/9) at around 09:54 WIB.
“With the closure of a number of airports due to the impact of the Mount Anak Krakatau eruption, one additional train is being operated by PT KAI Operational Area 8 Surabaya from Malang Station with Gambir Station as its final destination, departing at 20:15 WIB,” said Mahendro.
KAI Surabaya said the additional train consists of seven executive-class carriages with a total carrying capacity of 350 seats.
He stated that the additional train is part of the company’s efforts to provide transport services for the public, taking into account safety, comfort and the smooth running of rail travel.
In addition, KAI Operational Area 8 Surabaya said it will continue to monitor public needs amid the Mount Anak Krakatau eruption.
This is to ensure the company can optimally meet the demand for public mobility services.
“KAI continues to ensure the public has access to safe and comfortable rail transport through adjustments to travel services,” he said.
Mahendro urged customers to prepare all their travel needs properly and to check the latest information through the Access by KAI application, KAI’s official website, and other official information channels.
“Every travel arrangement is made with attention to the readiness of facilities, infrastructure and safety aspects,” said Mahendro.
