KAI: One Million Foreign Tourists Visited Bandung
BANDUNG — State-owned railway operator PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) recorded one million tourists visiting the city of Bandung from January to October 2026. They first travelled to Bandung on the Whoosh high-speed train and then continued by long-distance train.
KAI Vice-President for Corporate Communications Anne Purba said the number of people using rail services nationwide rose by 7 per cent in 2026. In Operational Area 2 (Daop 2), use of both long-distance and local trains increased by 11 per cent.
“More than eight million people used trains in the Daop 2 area,” she said on Thursday (15 October 2026).
She added that KAI had also seen passengers connecting from buses to local trains, as well as a significant increase in foreign passengers on long-distance services. In total, one million international visitors entered and left Bandung.
“If we look at arrivals and departures, nearly one million foreign nationals have visited Bandung and left the city, and have also used bus-to-long-distance-train connections,” she said.
Amid the significant rise in passenger numbers, KAI is developing services at Tasikmalaya Station to improve connectivity, intermodal integration and customer service, and to separate local and long-distance train services.
The company also plans to develop tourist areas using the Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) concept. It is also working to close level crossings.
“We are focusing on 190 locations. Of these, 172 have already been closed. In Daop 2, four new level-crossing posts have also been established, with staff and the necessary infrastructure and equipment in place,” she said.
She said KAI was inspecting 50 level crossings in Daop 2 Bandung and that those failing to meet requirements would be closed.
