PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) Operational Area 2 Bandung has strongly condemned an assault on a railway crossing guard at JPL 227 in Leuwigoong, Garut Regency. The violence occurred while the officer was performing his duties to ensure train travel safety on Sunday (12/7).

KAI Daop 2 Bandung Public Relations Manager, Kuswardojo, explained that the incident began when the officer was following operational procedures by closing the crossing gate at KM 210+8 on the Karangsari-Cibatu section, ahead of the Serayu train’s passing around 2 p.m. The officer spotted a motorcyclist forcing his way through the already closed barrier.

“The officer reprimanded the motorcyclist for breaking through because the action was extremely dangerous for the safety of train travel and other road users. However, the reprimand was met with arrogance,” Kuswardojo said on Monday (13/7).

Refusing to accept the warning, the motorcyclist returned to the JPL 227 post with three companions. They then assaulted the officer on duty before fleeing the scene. The brutal attack left the victim with bruises on his face and scratches on his hands.

KAI has coordinated with local police to pursue and legally process the perpetrators. “We have coordinated with law enforcement to follow up on this incident. We will ensure the legal process is carried out to provide a deterrent effect and prevent similar incidents from recurring,” he stressed.

KAI is also providing full support to the victimised officer. Kuswardojo reminded the public of the importance of traffic discipline at level crossings, emphasising that all road users must stop when signals sound or barriers begin to close. “Safety at level crossings is a shared responsibility. Officers are present to protect public safety. Ignoring the rules not only violates regulations but also threatens your own life and the lives of others,” he said.
