PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) Divisi Regional I Sumatera Utara continues to strengthen the reliability of its railway fleet through the strategic role of the Pulubrayan Workshop, which successfully completed heavy maintenance on dozens of units during the first half of 2026.

“Throughout the first half of 2026, the Pulubrayan Workshop successfully completed major periodic maintenance, including five locomotives, 18 passenger carriages, 102 freight wagons, three power-generating carriages, and one unit of special equipment,” said KAI Divre I Sumut Public Relations Manager, Anwar Yuli Prastyo, in Medan on Friday.

He emphasised that this achievement is evidence of the workshop’s dedication to maintaining the fleet’s airworthiness and reliability.

“Through planned and professionally executed maintenance, the workshop plays a vital role in supporting the achievement of passenger and freight transport targets in North Sumatra,” Anwar stated.

The nature of the maintenance differs from that of locomotive or carriage depots, such as the Medan Locomotive Depot or the Pulubrayan Carriage and Wagon Depot, which only handle light daily and monthly maintenance.

As a central workshop, the Pulubrayan facility accommodates various types of rolling stock, including locomotives, passenger carriages, power-generating carriages, freight wagons, and special equipment, for heavy maintenance (overhaul). This process is scheduled periodically after the rolling stock has been in operation for 24 months, 36 months, 48 months, or 72 months, and also includes other major repairs.
