Medan, North Sumatra - PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) Divisi Regional I North Sumatra served a total of 84,933 passengers over the 10-day Lebaran homecoming period running from 11 to 20 March 2026, with 11,244 of them selecting Rantauprapat Station as their final destination. Acting Head of Public Relations for KAI Divre I North Sumatra, Anwar Yuli Prastyo, in Medan on Friday, highlighted that the high mobility towards Rantauprapat was driven by the passenger profile dominated by migrant workers and students. “Many residents of Labuhanbatu who are pursuing education or working in Medan City use this Idul Fitri moment to return home. The train is the preferred mode because Rantauprapat Station is strategically located in the centre of government,” Anwar stated. Anwar added that the ease of onward transportation access provides added value for homecomers. The station’s proximity to the Labuhanbatu Regency government centre facilitates customers in continuing their journeys to their respective homes using various local transport options. During the Lebaran transport period (11 March–1 April 2026), Rantauprapat Station serves four KA arrivals daily, consisting of KA Sribilah Utama and KA Sribilah Fakultatif. These four trips depart from Medan Station with a total daily capacity of 2,112 seats. Anwar noted that KA Sribilah Utama, with arrival schedules at 14:05 WIB and 20:50 WIB, are the two times most favoured by customers. “During the 14-19 March period, tickets for both schedules sold out 100 percent of each train’s capacity of 520 seats. This shows high enthusiasm from the public,” he explained. Although part of North Sumatra’s population celebrated Idul Fitri on Friday, passenger movements remain dynamic. Overall, total tickets sold during the 22-day Lebaran transport period in North Sumatra reached 145,232 tickets, or 60 percent of the total available capacity. To accommodate the high demand, KAI Divre I North Sumatra also implemented strategic policies by extending the operational period of additional facilities. This extension applies to KA Sribilah Fakultatif, originally planned to end on 20 March, now until 25 March 2026, bringing the total capacity to 241,848 seats. “KAI Divre I North Sumatra recognises that homecoming is an important moment for the public to return to their families. Therefore, all our staff are committed to continuously providing the best service, ensuring travel safety, and delivering premium service from departure to arrival at the destination station,” he said.
