PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) North Sumatra Regional Division is providing 43,160 seats from 27 to 31 May 2026 to accommodate increased public mobility during the Eid al-Adha 1447H holiday and combined leave period. An average of 8,632 seats per day will be available across various railway routes in North Sumatra.

Head of Corporate Communications Anwar Yuli Prastyo stated the capacity increase aims to ensure smooth travel during the extended holiday. ‘The extended Eid al-Adha holiday is typically used by the public for returning to hometowns, visiting relatives, and tourism. Therefore, KAI North Sumatra Regional Division has prepared sufficient seating capacity to meet mobility needs,’ he said in a statement received on Sunday (24 May).

As of Sunday (24 May), 18,902 tickets had been sold for travel between 27 and 31 May 2026, with numbers expected to rise as the peak departure period approaches. To accommodate high demand, KAI North Sumatra has also operated the Sribilah Special Train on the Medan-Rantauprapat route (round trip) daily from 22 to 31 May 2026.

The Sribilah Special Train consists of four economy-class carriages with fares starting at Rp130,000. It departs Medan Station at 10:10 WIB and serves 15 intermediate stations en route to Rantauprapat Station.

According to Anwar, rail travel remains the public’s preferred choice due to its efficiency and comfort compared to other land transport modes. ‘Rail services offer regular schedules, predictable travel times, and freedom from road traffic congestion, making them the preferred choice during extended holidays,’ he added.

Passenger movement trends this weekend indicate heightened public activity as people begin travelling ahead of Eid al-Adha 1447H. A total of 1,451 tickets have been sold for four Siantar Express train journeys departing from both Medan and Siantar stations. Passengers are strictly prohibited from wearing jerseys, scarves, or any items related to competing football clubs.
