During the Lebaran holiday travel period, PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero), or KAI Regional Division 1 North Sumatra, is providing 231,704 tickets for departures from 11 March to 1 April 2026. As of the first week of Ramadan, 44,752 seats have already been reserved.

According to Anwar Yuli Prastyo, Acting Manager of Public Relations for KAI Regional Division 1 North Sumatra, of the 44,752 tickets sold, 1,398 are for the KA Sribilah Utama Fakultatif service departing 14–29 March. During this period, the government is offering a 30 per cent economic stimulus discount.

“Passengers can take advantage of this discount to make their holiday travel costs more efficient,” said Anwar on Saturday, 28 February 2026.

According to provisional data, the KA Putri Deli service on the Medan–Tanjungbalai route (return) for departures 21–24 March has sold 100 per cent of its tickets across six daily journeys. Passengers planning to use the KA Putri Deli service during this period are urged to select alternative departure dates where tickets remain readily available.

“The KA Putri Deli ticket prices are quite affordable, making them highly sought after. Especially during the Lebaran holiday, many people need transport for their journey home,” he added.

Overall, ticket availability in the North Sumatra Regional Division area remains sufficient. From 11 March onwards, when the Lebaran travel period commences, KAI North Sumatra is increasing carriage capacity for all operating trains. The KA Siantar Ekspres and KA Putri Deli services will each receive one additional economy-class carriage, whilst the KA Sribilah Utama will be enhanced with one additional executive-class carriage and one business-class carriage. This expansion increases the public’s opportunities to obtain tickets during the peak travel season.

Ticket sales for the Lebaran travel period commenced on 25 January 2026, arranged progressively according to selected departure schedules. Each day, 5,616 seats are available, covering popular long-distance train services including the KA Sribilah Utama on the Medan–Rantauprapat route and the KA Putri Deli on the Medan–Tanjungbalai route.

Bookings from 25 January to 15 February are available for departures from 11 March to 1 April. Tickets for the KA Siantar Ekspres service on the Medan–Siantar route and the KA Datuk Blambangan on the Tebingtinggi–Lalang route can only be reserved from seven days before departure.

“There are differences in the booking periods. We urge the public to carefully review the routes and booking windows to ensure their holiday travel plans proceed smoothly,” said Anwar.

To ensure transaction security, KAI requires prospective passengers to purchase tickets only through official channels, such as the Access by KAI application or the official booking website booking.kai.id. This measure is essential to guarantee ticket validity and prevent fraud or additional charges from third parties.

“Through more comprehensive preparation, KAI is committed to delivering safe, smooth and memorable holiday travel experiences. We recommend that the public regularly check seat availability to avoid missing out on quota for popular dates,” he concluded.
