Medan (ANTARA) - PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) Divre I North Sumatra recorded a higher number of train passengers during the peak return flow compared to the peak outbound flow in the North Sumatra region. Acting Head of Public Relations for KAI Divre I North Sumatra, Anwar Yuli Prastyo, in Medan on Friday, stated that based on ticket sales data on Wednesday (25/3), or during the peak return flow, KAI Divre I North Sumatra served 11,814 passengers. This figure is higher than the outbound peak on 18 March, which recorded 10,940 passengers. According to him, this trend indicates more massive societal movement during the return phase compared to the departure phase. “The passenger volume during this return flow tends to be larger than during the outbound. This is influenced by work-from-home (WFH) or work-from-anywhere (WFA) policies in several institutions, as well as the school schedule starting on 30 March,” Anwar said. The public is urged to book tickets through the Access by KAI application to ensure certainty of departure to various destinations in the North Sumatra region. He stated that this year’s passenger movement dynamics also show an even distribution pattern. In addition to flows towards Medan City, departures from Medan Station to supporting areas in the east coast region were also recorded as significant. “KAI Divre I North Sumatra expresses appreciation for the public’s trust in choosing rail transport as the main mobility means during the Eid al-Fitr outbound and return periods in 2026,” Anwar said.
