PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) or KAI Regional Division 1 North Sumatra has distributed 11,118 kilolitres of fuel oil (BBM) to the Kisaran and Siantar depots. This step was taken to maintain the stability of energy supplies for road transport modes experiencing a surge in vehicle volumes during the Eid al-Fitr transportation period.

Acting Head of Public Relations for KAI Divre 1 Sumut, Anwar Yuli Prastyo, explained that the distribution was carried out from 11-18 March 2026. A total of 327 tank wagons were deployed via the Labuhan–Siantar and Labuhan–Kisaran routes.

“Distributing BBM by train is a vital part of the energy supply chain for land transportation. It directly impacts the smooth flow of homecoming traffic and public mobility in North Sumatra,” said Anwar in a written statement on Friday, 20 March 2026.

Anwar detailed that the distribution focused on two main logistics arteries. First, the Kisaran BBM depot to meet energy needs in Asahan Regency, Batubara Regency, and Tanjungbalai City. Second, supplies were allocated towards Pematangsiantar to support BBM stocks in the Pematangsiantar, Simalungun, Central Tapanuli, and Samosir Island regions.

This distribution pattern is designed to ensure energy resilience in economic centres and major tourist routes that are destinations for homecomers. “The train mode has advantages in large carrying capacity and punctuality, making it highly efficient in supporting logistics distribution amid congested road traffic,” Anwar stated.

In addition to focusing on logistics transport, KAI Sumut also recorded positive trends in passenger transport. Throughout the period of 11-19 March 2026, the total number of customers served reached 75,266 people. The peak density of homecoming traffic occurred on H-3 Eid (18 March 2026) with 10,930 passengers. On H-2 Eid (19 March 2026), 9,970 passengers were dispatched to various destinations.

“These figures are predicted to continue increasing because tickets on several routes are still available. We see extraordinary enthusiasm from the public, especially for the KA Sribilah Utama and Sribilah Fakultatif services, which are favourite choices for returning home,” said Anwar.

KAI Sumut ensures that all operational aspects, both passenger and goods transport, run optimally. It is committed to providing safe, secure, and reliable transportation services throughout the Eid transportation period.
