PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) Regional Division I North Sumatra has conducted a safety socialisation programme at level crossings. This is an effort to increase public awareness and encourage greater caution when crossing at level crossings.

Acting Head of Public Relations for KAI Regional Division I North Sumatra, Anwar Yuli Prastyo, stated that the socialisation, involving the Divre I Railfans (DR1RF) rail enthusiast community, was held at the JPL 02–03 Pandu Road level crossing in Medan City.

Education was delivered through direct appeals to road users at the crossing, which is frequently used by two-wheeled and four-wheeled vehicles.

In accordance with Law No. 23 of 2007 on Railways, Article 124, at intersections between railway tracks and roads, road users must prioritise the passage of trains.

According to Anwar, this activity is part of efforts to raise public awareness of safety at level crossings.

“Safety at level crossings is a shared responsibility. KAI Regional Division I North Sumatra invites all road users to be disciplined when passing through level crossings by prioritising train journeys and complying with the existing signs,” he said in Medan on Sunday, 5 April 2026, as reported by Antara.

Such safety socialisation, he added, is carried out continuously through collaboration with various parties, including communities and residents near the railway lines.

“Educational activities like this are continuously conducted because many road users still fail to comply with rules at level crossings. Such behaviour can endanger the safety of train journeys as well as road users,” he stated.
