KAI Normalises Bumiayu Track After KA Bangunkarta Derailment
PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) has carried out normalisation after the KA Bangunkarta train derailed. The rail tracks at the Bumiayu Station platform in Brebes Regency, Central Java, can now be traversed again.
“Since the incident, for 11 hours, technical personnel and the management team have been deployed to carry out evacuation, track repairs, and operational pattern engineering to minimise the impact on customers,” said the Manager of KAI’s Daop 3 Cirebon, Muhibbuddin, on Tuesday (7/4). After intensive efforts, both tracks that were previously disrupted can now be passed by trains again.
“The train evacuation was completed, and the rail tracks could be traversed again on Tuesday (7/4) at 04:08 WIB. For the time being, to ensure track geometry safety, trains passing through are still subject to limited speed,” said Muhibbuddin. Currently, the upstream and downstream tracks can be traversed at 20 km/h. This speed will be gradually increased towards normal conditions, along with strict technical evaluations and prioritising travel safety aspects.
On the same occasion, Muhibbuddin explained that due to the KA Bangunkarta derailment, seven train journeys were cancelled, and 27 other journeys passing through Daop 3 Cirebon were rerouted via Semarang. “This number refers to trains passing through Daop 3,” said Muhibbuddin.
Furthermore, for the travel period from 6 to 7 April, KAI Daop 3 Cirebon has successfully processed 273 customer ticket cancellations.
KAI provides full refunds or 100 percent reimbursement for customers cancelling tickets due to this disruption. Refund applications can be made at stations up to 7x24 hours after the departure schedule. In addition, KAI also provides compensation in the form of service recovery for customers experiencing significant delays.
“However, in implementing these various efforts, we fully understand the discomfort felt by customers, especially those experiencing significant delays while on the train, waiting for departure time certainty, to queuing for refund processing at the station. We also realise that preparing service recovery (SR) services at several points still requires improvement,” said Muhibbuddin.
Muhibbuddin also added that this incident had a significant impact on many customers’ travel plans. “We apologise for the inconvenience that occurred and thank you for the patience and understanding given,” he stated.
Train services were disrupted due to the derailment of KA Bangunkarta (161) on the Jombang-Pasarsenen route at the Bumiayu Station platform, km 312+1, Central Java, on Monday (6/4) around 14:15 WIB. As a result, several train journeys experienced obstacles.
