KAI needs Rp 11t to improve service
BANDUNG: State-owned railway company PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) said on Saturday that it has to procure new trains and better railway tracks to improve its service.
KAI technical director Sjahrizal Siregar said that the current fleet of trains and railroads had been used for at least 25 years, thus they needed to be replaced.
According to him, KAI officers have routinely checked all the company's infrastructure, and found the aging facilities have hampered railway operations.
He said his firm needed Rp 11 trillion (US$1.29 billion) to improve the railways in the next three to five years. --Antara
