PT Kereta Api Indonesia/KAI (Persero) Operations Region (Daop) 1 Jakarta has announced that the period of 16-20 March 2026 represents the most favoured dates for residents undertaking Eid homecoming journeys using train services from Jakarta during the 2026 Eid travel season.

According to Franoto Wibowo, Public Relations Manager of PT KAI Daop 1 Jakarta, ticket reservation data indicates that the peak departure numbers occur on 18 March, followed by 19 March, 20 March, 17 March and 16 March. “The most favoured date for homecoming passengers is 18 March with the highest number of departures, followed by 19 March, 20 March, 17 March and 16 March,” Wibowo stated.

The primary destinations for this year’s Eid homecoming travel include Yogyakarta, Surabaya, Semarang, Purwokerto, Bandung and Jember.

To date, ticket bookings for the period from 11 March to 1 April 2026 have exceeded 681,000 tickets, representing approximately 63 per cent of the total seating capacity provided by KAI. Throughout the 22-day Eid travel period, KAI has prepared more than 1.076 million seats to accommodate passengers’ travel requirements.

Despite certain dates being particularly favoured, KAI has assured the public that train tickets remain abundantly available throughout the Eid period and that reservations continue to be accepted. “Overall, throughout the Eid travel season, a considerable number of tickets remain available for purchase by the public,” Wibowo noted.

On Friday (13 March), the number of passengers departing from Pasar Senen Station totalled 18,657, marking an increase compared to the previous day’s approximately 16,000 passengers.

In anticipation of the surge in passenger numbers during the peak period, KAI has arranged supplementary train services during the Eid travel season. The operator is running 12 additional Eid trains departing from Gambir Station, seven additional Eid trains departing from Pasar Senen Station, and four complimentary motor train services organised by the Directorate General of Railways under the Ministry of Transportation.
