KAI Madiun Reopens Rail Line at Limited Speed After Fatal Crash

Nganjuk (ANTARA) - PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) Operational Area 7 Madiun, East Java, said its officers acted swiftly following a collision between a train and a truck at an official guarded level crossing in Nganjuk, allowing the track to be reopened at limited speed.
Public Relations Manager of PT KAI Daop 7 Madiun, Tohari, said on Thursday that thanks to cooperation among all officers in the field, at 16:30 WIB the upstream and downstream tracks were successfully reopened so that train services could pass at a limited speed of 5 km/h to ensure operational safety.
“KAI Daop 7 Madiun will continue to prioritise safety in every step of the handling. All recovery measures are carried out in accordance with operational procedures and railway safety standards until train services can return to normal,” said Tohari in his statement in Nganjuk.
He also said the collision involving the Logawa train, which was struck by a truck at the official guarded level crossing (JPL 103) KM 126+428 on the Bagor-Saradan section, Nganjuk Regency, caused several train services to be delayed.
Among them, KA 154 Ranggajati experienced a delay of 131 minutes. KA 6 Argo Semeru then departed again from Saradan at 16:36 WIB with a delay of 99 minutes.
KA 10 Argo Wilis departed again from Caruban at 16:37 WIB with a delay of 58 minutes, while KA 247 Logawa was expected to depart from Bagor Station at 17:45 WIB with an estimated delay of 192 minutes.
KA 151 Brantas departed again from Nganjuk Station at 16:28 WIB with a delay of 92 minutes, and KA 251B Jayakarta departed again from Nganjuk Station at 16:41 WIB with a delay of 79 minutes.
In accordance with applicable regulations, KAI will continue to provide service recovery to customers affected by the resulting travel delays.
The company also expressed its apologies to all customers for the inconvenience caused. KAI continues to expedite the normalisation of operations while continuing to prioritise safety.
Tohari added that KAI Daop 7 Madiun also expressed its deep condolences over the death of the truck driver and its concern for road users who were injured and currently receiving treatment at the nearest hospital.
KAI once again called on all road users to always comply with the rules when crossing level crossings. Stop briefly, look left and right, make sure no train is approaching, and give way to trains.
“The discipline of road users is the key to preventing accidents at level crossings,” he said.
