KAI Madiun Reopens Rail Line at Limited Speed After Fatal Crash

PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) Operational Area 7 Madiun, East Java, confirmed that officers moved quickly following an accident between a train and a truck at an official, guarded level crossing in Nganjuk, allowing the line to reopen with speed restrictions. Tohari, Public Relations Manager of KAI Daop 7 Madiun, stated on Thursday that thanks to the cooperation of all field personnel, both the upstream and downstream tracks were reopened at 16:30 WIB, permitting train travel at a limited speed of 5 km/h to ensure operational safety. “KAI Daop 7 Madiun will continue to prioritise safety in every handling process. All recovery steps are carried out in accordance with railway operational procedures and safety standards until train journeys can return to normal,” Tohari said in a statement in Nganjuk. He noted that the collision between the Logawa train and a truck at the official guarded level crossing JPL 103, KM 126+428 on the Bagor–Saradan segment in Nganjuk Regency, caused delays to several train services. Among those affected, KA 154 Ranggajati was delayed by 131 minutes, KA 6 Argo Semeru departed from Saradan at 16:36 WIB with a 99-minute delay, and KA 10 Argo Wilis departed from Caruban at 16:37 WIB with a 58-minute delay. KA 247 Logawa was estimated to depart from Bagor Station at 17:45 WIB with a 192-minute delay, while KA 151 Brantas departed from Nganjuk Station at 16:28 WIB with a 92-minute delay and KA 251B Jayakarta departed from Nganjuk Station at 16:41 WIB with a 79-minute delay. In accordance with regulations, KAI will continue to provide service recovery to passengers affected by the delays. The company also apologised to all passengers for the inconvenience caused and is working to accelerate operational normalisation while prioritising safety. Tohari added that KAI Daop 7 Madiun expressed deep condolences for the death of the truck driver and concern for the injured road users currently receiving treatment at the nearest hospital. KAI also reiterated its call for all road users to always obey regulations when crossing level crossings: stop momentarily, look left and right, ensure no train is approaching, and always give priority to trains. “The discipline of road users is the main key to preventing accidents at level crossings,” he said.
