KAI Logistik Sends 25 Trains to Sumatra to Enhance Passenger Mobility

KAI Logistik has again been entrusted by its parent company to handle heavy cargo shipments via integrated logistics services. In late May 2026, the company will carry out a phased delivery of 25 trains from Jakarta’s Daop 1 region to Divre IV Tanjung Karang in South Sumatra (Sumbagsel). The assignment is part of ongoing synergy between PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) and its subsidiary to support increased capacity and operational optimisation of the national railway transport system. “Through the delivery of these 25 trains, KAI Logistik is committed to supporting the readiness of passenger rail facilities in Sumatra, particularly in South Sumatra (Sumbagsel),” Aniek stated in a press release on Wednesday, 27 May 2026. According to data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), rail passenger numbers in non-Java regions, including Sumatra and Sulawesi, reached approximately 1.9 million in Q1 2026. This equates to an average of around 637,000 passengers per month. The shipment is being handled through KALOG Pro’s Project Logistics segment, which is capable of managing large-scale logistics requirements. The 25 trains consist of 18 passenger carriages, three dining cars, and four generator cars, with a total weight of 773 tonnes. The company stated that all handling processes are conducted under strict operational standards, from loading and securing units during transit to distribution at the destination. Aniek explained that train distribution began on 24 May 2026 via the route from JICT Station in Daop 1 Jakarta. “The entire delivery process is estimated to be completed within 60 days, though it may finish earlier than planned due to optimised and efficient operational workflows at each stage,” Aniek said. KAI Logistik reaffirmed its commitment to providing large-scale logistics solutions, including supporting the development of the national railway transport ecosystem.
