Jakarta – A subsidiary of PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero), KAI Logistik, is examining plans to increase container transport capacity via the KA Ronggowarsito. This business expansion aims to strengthen goods distribution connectivity, particularly to support the rapidly growing logistics needs in the industrial areas of Semarang and surrounding regions.

Director of Business Development, Aniek Dwi Deviyanti, explained that this capacity enhancement plan is driven by rising demand from industrial players who require reliable and scheduled massive goods distribution.

“By optimising the KA Ronggowarsito service, KAI Logistik is present to address logistics challenges in Central Java, while providing added value for manufacturing companies that need more efficient and reliable transportation modes compared to others,” said Aniek, quoted from her statement on Friday, 8 May 2026.

She stated that KA Ronggowarsito is expected to become a solution due to its strategic advantages, including direct transit points in Semarang, which is a primary differentiator in the current logistics market. Serving the Jakarta – Semarang return route, this service is also designed to strengthen logistics points in Klari, Karawang. This integration aims to support distribution efficiency for industrial areas in Karawang and facilitate more effective repositioning of shipping line transport.

“In the development plan currently being explored, KA Ronggowarsito is projected to start operating with a frequency of every two days using a consist of 25 Flat Wagons (GD). This capacity is equivalent to 50 TEUs or 900 tonnes per trip. If accumulated, this service can handle up to 13,500 tonnes of goods per month, expected to be operational from May 2026,” Aniek continued.

The main focus of this service strengthening is the manufacturing and Fast-Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) sectors. The characteristics of goods from these two sectors require timeliness as well as safe and stable handling. By connecting production centres in Jakarta and Karawang directly to the heart of Semarang’s industry, KAI Logistik strives to ensure customers’ supply chains remain intact with optimal distribution performance.

This effort is part of KAI Logistik’s strategic roadmap in strengthening the role of rail transport in the national supply chain’s middle-mile segment. The company assesses that enhancing services in the northern Java corridor is crucial to support national industrial competitiveness through the integration of rail infrastructure with strategic economic centres.
