KAI Logistik Optimises Motorcycle Deliveries for Students Returning to Yogyakarta
PT Kereta Api Logistik (KAI Logistik) is optimising its motorcycle delivery service to Yogyakarta by adding capacity to anticipate increased demand during the long university holiday and new academic year period from June to July 2026. Yudhi Kurniawan, Central Region Manager of KAI Logistik, stated that the company is taking various anticipatory steps through its retail delivery service to handle the potential rise in motorcycle shipment volumes to the Special Region of Yogyakarta, known as one of Indonesia’s largest education hubs. He noted that the current shipping trend is relatively consistent with patterns from previous years. As of early June, no significant surge has been observed, but the daily average has already increased by approximately 20 percent compared to the same period last year. Based on historical trends, KAI Logistik projects the peak of deliveries will occur in July, coinciding with students returning to campus after the semester break and the start of the new academic year. During this period, motorcycle shipment volumes could potentially increase by two to three times compared to the normal daily average. To ensure optimal service and meet customer expectations, KAI Logistik has made various operational preparations, including ensuring the availability of packing equipment and supporting materials. The company has also updated its packing completeness standards and provided briefings to service and operational staff on improving service quality during the peak period. KAI Logistik continues to apply strict operational standards in the motorcycle shipping process, including vehicle inspections according to a checklist, thorough documentation upon receipt, before and after packing, and quality control of packaging to maintain the condition of shipments. In addition to arranging vehicles efficiently with attention to safe distances, the company is also coordinating with train escort officers and destination stations to anticipate the increase in shipment volumes. All shipping processes are carried out based on transaction order to maintain transparency, service accuracy, and customer satisfaction. Yudhi added that KAI Logistik has also prepared a capacity adjustment scheme should the surge exceed daily transport capacity. He explained that if shipment volumes exceed normal capacity, the company may collaborate with relevant partners to increase transport capacity. Furthermore, the company is ready to adjust operational schedules and personnel numbers as needed while prioritising safety, security, and service quality for customers. With these preparations, KAI Logistik is confident it can deliver reliable, safe, and high-quality shipping services during the long holiday and new academic year period, while supporting the logistical mobility needs of students in Yogyakarta.
