KAI Logistics Targets New Business in Livestock Transport
PT Kereta Api Logistik (KAI Logistics) is exploring new business opportunities in the livestock transport sector through a strategic partnership with PT Bogantara Indo Transport (Bogantara). The collaboration was marked by the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on Thursday (7 May 2026) as an initial step in developing services for new commodities, particularly agricultural products and livestock. KAI Logistics states that this partnership represents the company’s first synergy in delivering large-scale distribution solutions for strategic food commodities via rail transport. Managing Director of KAI Logistics, Yuskal Setiawan, said the move aligns with the company’s vision to become a provider of integrated logistics solutions. “In line with our vision to become a total logistics solution company, through our KALOG Plus service, we aim to deliver logistics solutions that meet the needs of multi-commodity shipments in large volumes, including food resources from agriculture and livestock,” Yuskal stated in a press release on Sunday (10 May 2026). According to him, transporting livestock presents a challenging new commodity for the company, prompting the development of specialised services and transport facilities. KAI Logistics and Bogantara hope this partnership will open new opportunities to improve the efficiency of food commodity distribution and mobility, particularly from production areas to demand centres. The company notes that this step aligns with national development directions in supporting food security, including strengthening the food sector through development visions and national economic reinforcement. In the initial implementation phase, business exploration will focus on transporting livestock in the form of cattle on routes from East Java to Jakarta. Although starting with cattle shipments, both companies are open to expanding the partnership to various other food materials and livestock types according to market needs and business partners. KAI Logistics assesses that using rail transport for livestock shipments has advantages over land transport modes such as trucks. In a single journey, trains are said to be capable of carrying a larger number of livestock.
