KAI Launches Independence Day Livery on Intercity Trains
PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) is enlivening Independence Month by presenting a special livery for the 81st Anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia’s Independence on several intercity train sets. The red and white themed livery appears on the KA Pandalungan 2 serving the Jember–Gambir route, the KA Argo Wilis and KA Turangga serving the Bandung–Surabaya Gubeng route, and the KA Gajayana serving the Malang–Gambir route. Vice President Corporate Communication of KAI, Anne Purba, stated that the presence of the independence livery brings the atmosphere of the Republic of Indonesia’s anniversary celebration closer to the public’s journeys. “Every day, trains connect cities, families, workplaces, educational centres, tourist destinations, and various community activities. In this Independence Month, the spirit of the Red and White also travels along with these journeys,” said Anne. The livery carries the spirit of the official theme for the 81st Anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Indonesia in 2026, ‘Indonesia Berdaulat, Adil, dan Makmur’ (Sovereign, Just, and Prosperous Indonesia). The visual identity of independence is displayed on the exterior of the train sets with red and white nuances that strengthen the atmosphere of the independence celebration throughout the journey. The presence of the livery on these trains brings the festivity of independence across various regions on the island of Java. Pandalungan 2 connects Jember with Jakarta, Argo Wilis and Turangga connect Bandung with Surabaya, while Gajayana connects Malang with Jakarta. According to Anne, these routes illustrate how trains continue to be part of inter-regional community connectivity. Each journey brings together various interests, from family, work, and education to tourism and economic activities. “The spirit of independence has a meaning that is close to the train journey. From one region to another, people are connected and various activities continue. KAI wants the festivity of the 81st Anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia to be felt by customers from the station to the journey,” said Anne. The presence of the independence livery is also part of KAI’s effort to provide a travel experience that aligns with national moments. The red and white nuances on the train sets are expected to build a sense of togetherness while reminding everyone that Indonesia’s journey is built on connectivity between communities and regions. KAI summarised this spirit with the message, ‘Merah Putih Terus Melaju, 81 Tahun Indonesia, Satu Semangat Perjalanan Bangsa’ (The Red and White Continues to Advance, 81 Years of Indonesia, One Spirit of the Nation’s Journey). “Eighty-one years of Indonesia’s independence is a long journey that we continue together. KAI will continue to take part through transportation services that connect communities and various centres of activity, in line with the spirit of a sovereign, just, and prosperous Indonesia,” Anne concluded.
