KAI Launches Brumbung Cargo Train on Demak-Jakarta Route
Semarang (ANTARA) - PT KAI has launched the Brumbung Cargo train, which serves the transportation of goods from Brumbung Station in Demak Regency to Pasoso Station in Jakarta, as one of the alternative efforts to support the smooth flow of national logistics.
EVP of Sales at PT KAI, Ririn Widi Astutik, during the launch at Brumbung Station in Demak, Central Java, on Thursday, stated that the freight train with a consist of 20 wagons in the initial phase will operate every two days.
The selection of Brumbung Station as the departure and final destination point for the train, she continued, is based on a feasibility study that has already been conducted beforehand.
“Previously, a study has been carried out. Brumbung Station is a strategic point, and it is also adjusted to market demand,” she said.
She stated that PT KAI is committed to providing benefits in reducing exhaust gas emissions, traffic congestion, and road damage.
“KAI’s participation in providing this freight transport is expected to help the government in suppressing logistics costs,” she said.
According to her, current logistics costs are relatively high with various impacts on infrastructure.
PT KAI, she continued, is committed to supporting logistics cost efficiency, which is also expected to support regional economic growth.
Meanwhile, the Head of PT KAI’s Daop 4 Semarang, Mohamad Arie Fathurrochman, said that the Brumbung Cargo train will strengthen the role of this operational area as a strategic logistics node in Central Java.
“This service is also part of our efforts to support the development of a more efficient and sustainable logistics ecosystem,” he said.
