PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) has stated that Karet and Sudirman Baru stations in Jakarta served 6,702,680 Commuter Line passengers during the period from January to August 2026.

“Based on data from January–August 2026, Karet Station and Sudirman Baru Station served 6,702,680 passenger activities,” said KAI Vice President Corporate Communication Anne Purba, confirmed in Jakarta on Sunday.

She detailed that the figure consisted of 4,909,334 passenger activities at Karet Station and 1,793,346 passenger activities at Sudirman Baru Station.

KAI is integrating Karet and Sudirman Baru stations through the arrangement of access and connecting facilities to strengthen integrated transport, while improving efficiency and comfort for Commuter Line passengers.

Anne said the company is strengthening the integration of Karet Station and Sudirman Baru Station through the development of passenger access facilities.

“This arrangement is being carried out to improve the comfort of public travel by providing better connectivity between the Karet Station and Sudirman Baru Station areas,” said Anne.

She said the development of Karet Station is part of KAI’s efforts to improve the quality of station facilities while supporting connectivity between urban rail transport service areas.

“Karet Station continues to have a role as a passenger access point. Through this facility development, KAI is arranging access and supporting areas so that passengers can travel more comfortably, safely and in an orderly manner, centred on Sudirman Baru Station,” said Anne.

Anne explained that Karet Station and Sudirman Baru Station each retain their respective functions. Integration is carried out through the arrangement of passenger access and connecting facilities that facilitate connectivity between station areas.

KAI is arranging the Karet Station side through improvements to the station landscape, drop-off areas for onward vehicles including online motorcycle taxis, utilisation of station areas, and the arrangement of pedestrian corridors. The arrangement is intended to create more comfortable passenger access around the station area.

KAI will also prepare connecting facilities from Karet Station to Sudirman Baru Station in the form of one 20-metre flat travelator and two vertical travelators. These facilities support passenger convenience when moving between station areas towards Commuter Line services at Sudirman Baru Station.

In addition, development on the Kendal side is being carried out through the addition of access escalators, corridor canopies, and the arrangement of pedestrian corridors. The arrangement of pedestrian areas and onward vehicle access is also being undertaken to support smooth passenger mobility and reduce congestion around Karet Station.

After the development is completed, Karet Station will have a role as passenger access towards KRL journeys at Sudirman Baru. Meanwhile, connectivity to Sudirman Baru Station is strengthened through connecting facilities that support passenger convenience in accessing Commuter Line services.

The Karet–Sudirman Baru station integration is also part of the long journey of urban rail transport development. Karet Station began operating in 1922 and became part of the development of urban KRL services.

Subsequently, Sudirman Baru Station began serving train journeys in 2017–2018 and entered the area integration stage in 2026.

Anne added that the development of station facilities is part of KAI’s steps in responding to the growing mobility needs of the Greater Jakarta community.

Through the development of Karet Station and connectivity to Sudirman Baru Station, KAI is providing more orderly passenger access with increasingly better travel support facilities.

“The strengthening of these facilities supports a more comfortable Commuter Line travel experience for the public,” said Anne.
