KAI Jakarta Will Not Tolerate Any Form of Sexual Harassment
Jakarta (ANTARA) - PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) Daerah Operasi 1 Jakarta has emphasised that it will not tolerate any form of sexual harassment in its operational environment and is prepared to impose sanctions on perpetrators, ranging from reporting to the police to inclusion on a blacklist.
“Perpetrators will face firm sanctions,” stated Franoto Wibowo, Manager of Public Relations for KAI Daop 1 Jakarta, in Jakarta on Tuesday.
He detailed that the sanctions would include reporting to the police, displaying the identity or photo of the perpetrator at stations as a public warning, and placement on a blacklist, thereby prohibiting the use of train services for a certain period or permanently.
Franoto noted that the commemoration of Kartini Day serves as an important reminder of the need to protect women, while strengthening collective efforts to create an inclusive and safe transportation environment for all users.
Currently, KAI has implemented various preventive measures against sexual harassment, including separate toilets for men and women on long-distance trains, dedicated women’s carriages on KRL services, installation of surveillance cameras (CCTV analytic) at several points, provision of priority seats (female seats), education programmes at stations and schools, and a complaint service via the KAI Contact Centre 121.
Additionally, KAI Jakarta held socialisation events on preventing sexual harassment, such as the one conducted today in the waiting room of Pasar Senen Station, featuring experts like psychologists and the Central Jakarta Women’s and Children’s Protection Unit (PPA).
The event aims to raise customer awareness and strengthen synergy between KAI, communities, and relevant agencies in preventing and handling sexual harassment cases in public spaces.
“Through this activity, we want to educate the public that sexual harassment is an intolerable act. KAI urges all customers not to hesitate to report any indications of sexual harassment they encounter or experience to on-duty officers,” said Franoto.
He hopes that this socialisation and education will increase public courage to take action and report incidents.
As a form of collective commitment, a petition against sexual harassment was signed by speakers, invited guests, and passengers at Pasar Senen Station.
The petition serves as a symbol of collective support in creating a safe, comfortable transportation environment free from all forms of violence.
He added that KAI Daop 1 Jakarta will continue to conduct similar activities on an ongoing basis, involving more parties, to realise a safe, comfortable, and violence-free transportation ecosystem.
KAI Daop 1 Jakarta will also continue to enhance customer security through strengthened surveillance in station and train areas, ongoing education, and ease of reporting access for the public.
