KAI Jakarta records 385 thousand passengers during Independence Day holiday

PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) Operational Area (Daop) 1 Jakarta recorded more than 385 thousand long-distance train (KAJJ) passengers during the extended holiday period for the 81st Anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia, namely on 13-18 August 2026.

Based on data up to Tuesday at 09.00 WIB, a total of 200,303 passengers departed from a number of stations in the Daop 1 Jakarta area, while the number of arriving passengers was recorded at around 184.8 thousand people.

KAI Daop 1 Jakarta Public Relations Manager Franoto Wibowo said in a statement in Jakarta on Tuesday that the high level of public mobility during the long holiday shows that trains are one of the most widely chosen modes of transport for intercity travel.

The peak of departures occurred on Saturday (15/8) with a total of 40,041 passengers. On that day, Gambir Station served 14,687 departing passengers and Pasar Senen Station served 13,889 passengers.

Meanwhile, the peak of arrivals occurred on Monday (17/8), with a total of 39,880 passengers. Gambir Station recorded 14,522 arriving passengers, while Pasar Senen Station recorded 13,280 arriving passengers.

Franoto said that the return flow was still ongoing on Tuesday. As of 09.00 WIB, the number of passengers arriving in the Daop 1 Jakarta area had reached 39,418 people and was still dynamic.

In addition, there were seven additional train services from Gambir Station, bringing the total to up to 76 train services per day to support public needs during the long holiday.

Overall, KAI Daop 1 Jakarta provided 234,815 long-distance train seats during the 13-18 August 2026 period.

Regarding the special Independence Day promotional programme, a total of 8,421 passengers took advantage of the 17 August promotion.

“The 17 August promotion is one form of KAI’s appreciation to the public. We are grateful that 8,421 customers utilised the programme to travel by train,” said Franoto.

A number of cities that were favourite destinations for customers included Yogyakarta, Surabaya, Semarang, Purwokerto, Bandung, and Jember.

High mobility was also recorded on local train services. The Pangrango train recorded 21,360 ticket bookings out of a capacity of 22,080 seats, while the Siliwangi train recorded 7,337 ticket bookings out of a capacity of 11,448 seats during the same period.

Franoto emphasised that KAI continues to evaluate services and operations during transport periods with high passenger volumes.
