KAI Jakarta halts train journeys at Jatinegara amid protests
PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) Operational Area 1 Jakarta has added a stop at Jatinegara Station for long-distance train services to and from Gambir Station on Friday, in response to a public demonstration in Jakarta. Manager of Public Relations for KAI Daop 1 Jakarta, Franoto Wibowo, stated that the policy was implemented starting at 1 p.m. Western Indonesian Time. The decision was taken to maintain smooth services amid potential traffic congestion heading to Gambir Station, as the demonstration is centred around the Bundaran Hotel Indonesia area. The anticipated increase in vehicle volume on major roads, particularly those accessing Gambir Station, prompted the adjustment. Franoto emphasised that adding the stop at Jatinegara Station is a service enhancement to ensure customers can still travel comfortably, safely, and on time despite the potential for traffic jams. He confirmed that this policy does not alter the original departure schedules from the initial stations. KAI has disseminated this information to passengers through various communication channels, including SMS and WhatsApp broadcasts. The affected train services include departures from Gambir such as the Purwojaya, Taksaka, Brawijaya, Bima, Gajayana, Cakrabuana, Sembrani, Pandalungan, Anggrek, Argo Lawu, Gunungjati, and Manahan, as well as arrivals to Gambir including the Parahyangan, Taksaka, Argo Lawu, Anggrek, Manahan, Cakrabuana, and Gunungjati services.
